Famous graves appreciation - Cheang Hong Lim

Went to pay respect to a few famous graves this Lunar New Year.  Here is one of them:
    Cheang Hong Lim

Besides being a Justice of Peace, Cheang also brought him a few titles from the Qing govt, as shown
    by the tombstone above.

List of contributions - (Temples related)

1863 - Building Pasir Panjang Double Lion Fu Teck Chi
1869 - Donating piece of land and rebuilding Fook Tet Soo Khek Temple (Tanjong Pager)
1871 - Sole rebuilding of Kim Lan Temple
1887 - Sole Funder  of Geok Ong Temple and Qing Xuan Zheng Jun for the Chang Tai people

It is said when he built temples, he broke several norms, ie regardless of dialect groups, location or Taoism/Popular religion etc, like donation to a Fook Tet Soo Khet temple despite being a Hokkien
    and also Geok Ong temple

    Places named after him:

    Hong Lim Park
    Cheong Hong Lim Street
    Cheong Wan Seng Place
    Hong Lim Quay
    Bukit Bankee
    Hong Lim Market

(some names not in existence any more)

Taken From 100 Years' History of the Chinese in Singapore by Song Ong Siang

    Notes:

The money of $400,000 lent to his friends would amount to $40 million in today equivalent
(Pioneers of Singapore by Chiu Sin Min). It is said he is benevolent to the poor, and after building Hong Lim Market,
he did not press for the rental and will release the debt if the debtor really cannot pay.

Thank you Mr Raymond Goh for your work - now i can share with my boys about their great -great- grandfather! My mother-in-law mentioned about her grandfather during dinner last night - it was the first time she talked about her family to the grandchildren :) We really appreciate your effort in preserving Bukit Brown.
